The commitment is dedicated to replicating the riparian buffer zones that historically occupied the majority of central and south Florida and apply that ecology to retention pond systems. Uniquely enough, Florida is one of only a few states that utilize these retention systems as holding areas for cultural run-off like fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides. By incorporating ecosystem facilitation we strategically plant local native aquatics into these retention ponds were water flows in and out of these man-made systems; essentially we try and recreate a natural riparian buffered zone within a watershed or an area on land that drains in to a lake or stream according to the hydrology of the area. Implementing aquatic plant diversity coupled with regular maintenance of algae removal reduces pollutants and runoff deposition and can be managed in a natural manner rather than simply spraying a retention area with chemicals like copper-sulfate or herbicides which accumulate in these reservoirs.
